Hanny Slaney is showing at Laura Lea Design

Arts Trail: Have you shown this work before / hosted this event before?

Some of the works have been shown before at Laura Lea design, also at Le Petite Corner back in March this year and previously at The Center For Fine Art Photography.

Arts Trail: Have you taken part in the Trail before?

I haven’t, but I’m looking forward to seeing all the work.

Arts Trail: Tell us a little about your artistic background / education

I graduated from Camberwell, University Of The Arts London in 2005 with a BA (hons) Photography. Since then I have been working as a Commercial Freelance Photographer. I have been producing my personal work over the last 10 years.

My images have been selected and exhibited for Salon/16 show at Photofusion and previously for Photomonth (London) and The Center For Fine Art Photography (CO, USA). This year I have been shortlisted for the Belfast Photo Festival, The LPA Futures Award of 2017 and the Print Magnum print swap.

Arts Trail: How would you describe your art practice?

My ideas come from memories, nostalgia and looks at British culture. My images capture desolate urban landscapes in the UK, Europe and the US. My still life work features re-creation of memories inspired by nostalgia and observations of everyday life.

Arts Trail: What kind of things inspire you to create art?

Ideas about relationships we have to the past and how we perceive the passage of time. It could also be something as simple as an object or colour combination. Often the inspiration comes from getting frustrated or angry about something I experience which is turned into a positive by making new work.

Arts Trail: How would you describe a good day in the studio?

When I get inspiration for new ideas. Planning a shoot. It could be when shooting, working well with a set designer or stylist who has the same vision for the shoot. Also the satisfaction you get at the end of the day when you know its in the bag!

Arts Trail: What challenges (if any) do you face in preparing yourself and your work for the Trail?

None really, just time management and preparing everything around other work.

Arts Trail: Do you collect art?

Yes I have a Peter Blake and a few screen prints

Arts Trail: Please tell us something you really like about Leytonstone

The creative friends I have met since being here, Yardarm On Francis Road and walking down to Wanstead Flats

Arts Trail: Besides the Trail, what is coming up next for you and where can we see more of your art in the flesh or on-line?

For the Arts Trail I’m exhibiting at Laura Lea Design. On Friday 7th July from 6-9pm we have a preview for ‘Time Warp’ so you can see me there and more of my work can be seen on my website www.hannahslaney.com
